Get To Know Me

Hi, my name is Catherine Taylor and I'm a 24 year old animator and illustrator based in Canada. As a recent graduate of New Brunswick Community College I decided to start this website to get my name out there and keep a blog as a way to track my journey through my career. Since this is my first blog post I figure the best thing to do is talk a little bit about myself and my goals as an artist.

Growing up I was always a creative kid, any form of expressing myself I was immediately interested in to some extent. You name it, acting, singing, writing and obviously drawing I threw myself into head first. I was the apple of every English teacher's eye during school for my well planned out short stories and the bane of every math teacher's existence because I couldn't get through a page of homework without looking at a multiplication table.

I've always been a fan of comics, which only fed my interest in art. I used to stare at the pages of Jeff Smith's Bone and Kazu Kibuishi's Amulet books. I got from the school library and just stare at the art for hours admiring how immersive it felt. As I got older I discovered the world of web comics and devoured works like Rachel Smythe's Lore Olympus. They inspired me to take art more seriously and pursue making comics myself.

Another medium I've always been drawn to is animation; films, tv shows, every style from every country has always fascinated me. The craftsmanship that goes into the average piece always blew me away, and continues to do so now that I understand how the sausage gets made. I find now more than ever is such an interesting time for animation in terms of variety and accessibility and that made me want to be part of the space even more.

Overall I'm very excited to dive into my artistic career and I look forward to future projects that come my way. I can't wait to share my own ideas and help others bring theirs to life, and I'm excited to see what's ahead on my career path.
